Lifted from the 1990s, a time of restless compositional fury for Japanese composers Satoshi and Makoto, CZ-5000 Sounds & Sequences Vol. II utilises the under-utilised Casio CZ-5000 for a beautifully forward-thinking LP of synthesised lusciousness. Tunes like ‘Reconstruction’, ‘Closer’ and the chip tune funk of ‘A Postcard in Summer’ glow with the kind of electronic sensibilities we expect from Haruomi Hosono, blended with the micro-orchestral approach and wide-eyed wistfulness of Joe Hisaishi.
